About
We are two friends who were former magazine editors. Having moved onto other things, we both realized that the creative flow the publishing world used to offer us was missing from our lives. Armed with a common love of travel to the exotic and familiar, a penchant for the bohemian, an obsession with food and a lust for writing, we decided to collaborate our unique and fashionable journeys through life together in one passion project.
We are The Gypsetters.
10 Things About Stephanie Zubiri
- I live every day to the fullest but always planning and looking forward to my next escape.
- If I have no upcoming trips in the horizon I become very sullen, unmotivated and depressed….
- I actually secretly enjoy airplane food. Yes even in Economy. I like the neat little way things all fit so perfectly in one tiny tray. When I’m lucky enough to travel Business Class, I look forward to that customary glass of champagne upon take-off.
- For me, the big difference between a good hotel and an excellent one is the quality of their room service breakfast!
- When I travel with my friends, I will happily scrimp and save on the hotel. But when I’m with my hubby or alone, I love to splurge on a great room!
- No matter where I go, I will always pack at least a pair of heels or wedges, great dangly earrings and a really rocking bright lipstick. Who knows where you’re going to go or who you’re going to meet. You may just meet a prince when you least expect it. I did, and I was in my pajamas. Yes. Pajamas, my hubby’s sweater and ratty eyeglasses while I sat across a real live prince for breakfast. You can bet I’ve learned my lesson since.
- I’ve recently learned to appreciate the perks of being loyal to an airline carrier and racking up points and privileges. On a recent flight to Paris in the Economy cabin, the kind staff of Qatar Airways managed to save me an entire row for myself, brought me chocolates and desserts from Business Class, extra blankets and fluffy pillows because of my gold member status. Yay!
- I feel I must be a very, very old soul. There are places I go to and feel so incredibly at home, a deep connection to its innate cosmic energy. Bali, Sri Lanka, Paris, Mexico… I am pretty sure once I get to go to India, Morocco, Lebanon and Argentina it will be exactly the same. That makes for a lot of past lives right there!
- I firmly believe in the magic of long walks, restless meandering and being ready to throw the itineraries out the window.
- I almost never write things down in a notebook. I trust my instincts and memory because the most magical moments I’ve had were never captured on photo or written down but engraved for eternity in my soul.
10 Things About Vicki Abary
- By the time I was 8 years old I had lived in four cities: New York, Hong Kong, Los Angeles and Manila. I believe this was the biggest influence in my love of new places and has taught me to assimilate to new situations.
- I believe in the quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson, “Life is a journey, not a destination.” Sometimes we get so caught up in the end result, we don’t get to experience what’s right in front of our noses.
- I love to drive. My personal record driving by myself is from Los Angeles to San Francisco to visit family for 4th of July weekend. On trips like this, good music is essential.
- When travelling, I eat locally – dim sum in Hong Kong, pasta in Florence, escargots in Paris and oysters in San Francisco. One time I went to Hong Kong and only had one Chinese meal the whole trip – it was so incomplete.
- Comfort, cleanliness and location are the factors for me when it comes to booking hotel rooms. I have yet to try camping.
- Even if I’m travelling to a city, I always pack a bikini and flip-flops in case I feel like taking a swim or should I venture out somewhere unexpected.
- I can’t pack light for the life of me.
- I have vivid memories of weekends away that were so surreal I’m not sure if I dreamed them up.
- I’m willing to try anything at least once.
- The greatest adventure of my life so far is my son, Enzo.
