The Ikat Home

Ask any true gypsetter what the color of her soul is and she would most definitely reply – IKAT! It’s bold, it’s tribal, it’s ethnic – a blueprint of dreams of exotic escapes and faraway lands. When used properly, in the right doses, it is utterly chic and modern. A not so new trend, but for us bohos at heart, a timeless one.
The easiest way to do Ikat is to buy a throw pillow or two and infuse them into your already existing decor. Choose a color that will either blend in to what you have or go for something utterly contrasting. A personal favorite is a nice navy blue and white pattern. It can look sharp and elegant especially when paired with black, white, wood and some glossy metallics. The best accent for this combo is a pop of hot pink flowers! (photos: Elle Decor )
Feeling adventurous? Take an old chair and reupholster it in an ikat fabric. (photo: Elle Decor France) It’s a great accent piece especially in a white, minimalist setting. Don’t be afraid to mix design eras, we love the clean, stiff lines of this mid-century modern sofa paired with the cactus green bohemian fabric and aged wood. (photo: Anthropologie )
Still don’t feeling like seeing this bold print everyday? Buy some small accessories like some plates, a catchall, a tray or even some napkins. Small doses with a big punch!

We are two friends who were former magazine editors. Having moved onto other things, we both realized that the creative flow the publishing world used to offer us was missing from our lives. Armed with a common love of travel to the exotic and familiar, a penchant for the bohemian, an obsession with food and a lust for writing, we decided to collaborate our unique and fashionable journeys through life together in one passion project.
We are The Gypsetters.
