Ithaa Undersea Restaurant

posted by in Lust List

I’ve always been fascinated with marine life. I graduated from being a mere observer as a little girl at Sea World, Ocean Park  and Monterey Aquarium, to an actual observer snorkeling in the sea to finally getting up close and personal to the fish via my open-water scuba certification at 19. Once I was down there, there was only one thing  lacking in the experience- being unable to spend an infinite amount of time cavorting with sea creatures.

But now, you can – with a gourmet meal, to boot!

The first underwater restaurant in the world, Ithaa Undersea Restaurant at the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island is a dream come true for foodies slash fishophiles like me. Built by the design consultancy firm M.J. Murphy Ltd of New Zealand, Ithaa (which means mother-of-pearl in the Maldivian language, Dihevi) is found 5 meters below sea level and made of acrylic so its 14 guests can fully enjoy a 6-course set meal while gazing out at the 270-degree panoramic view of the ocean life surrounding them.

As for the food, you can expect a well-executed menu consisting of Asian-Continental fare including lots of seafood, naturally – and even caviar – that you can pair with a variety of wines and Champagne. Drinking and diving has never been better!

But like all dreams, this won’t last long. Because of the extreme conditions placed upon it, its estimated that Ithaa will only stick around for 20 years. I better make my booking soon. And so should you! For more about Ithaa, you can visit their website here.

May your gypsetting dreams come true,

Vicki

We are two friends who were former magazine editors. Having moved onto other things, we both realized that the creative flow the publishing world used to offer us was missing from our lives. Armed with a common love of travel to the exotic and familiar, a penchant for the bohemian, an obsession with food and a lust for writing, we decided to collaborate our unique and fashionable journeys through life together in one passion project.
