10 Songs to Get You in the Malasimbo Groove

Two more days and all roads and sea routes will lead to beautiful Puerto Galera, Mindoro for the 5th Malasimbo Music & Arts Festival!

There is a stellar line-up this year including Ky-Mani Marley, the second youngest of reggae icon and legend Bob Marley’s eleven children, who did not want to follow in his father’s footsteps but a collaboration of Pras of The Fugees for Eddie Grant’s “Electric Avenue” made him fall in love with music. It was inevitable! Another child of a famous musician visiting Malasimbo is Taylor McFerrin, an American DJ, music producer, keyboardist and beatboxer.  He is the eldest son of popular vocalist and classical conductor Bobby McFerrin. French Kiwi Juice or FKJ, rising star of the electronic French indie scene, also performs at Malasimbo. I’m also looking forward to hearing American funkmeister, legendary bandleader and trombonist Fred Wesley and The New JBs as well as Australian beatboxer Tom Thum.

The New Standard asked Olivia D’Aboville, artist and co-organizer of Malasimbo Arts & Music Festival, to come up with a playlist for its festival feature here and I’d love to share that playlist with you at The Gypsetters.Net. For some of these tracks, click on the song title and let the music move you! Thank you Olivia and we’re so looking forward to watching these amazing acts LIVE!

May all your gypsetting dreams come true,

Vicki

The link for Crowns Down’s song “Silangan” is incorrect. Please try to fix it. 😀

We are two friends who were former magazine editors. Having moved onto other things, we both realized that the creative flow the publishing world used to offer us was missing from our lives. Armed with a common love of travel to the exotic and familiar, a penchant for the bohemian, an obsession with food and a lust for writing, we decided to collaborate our unique and fashionable journeys through life together in one passion project.
